A little while ago a beautiful flyer arrived in my letterbox filled with eye-catching patterns and stunning furniture pieces.  Coming across a new supplier is exciting at the best of times but to find one producing pieces that are so unique is like striking gold!  I was curious and wanted to discover the story behind this striking new brand.  Creative Director Melita Bruvelis was kind enough to answer some questions:

Tell us about your background and how Mayvn Interiors came to be….

I have always loved design and have worked in the industry for over 20 years. The true highlights of my career have been in visual merchandising, event design, property styling and residential and interior decorating. Designing beautiful furniture, for me, is the natural next step in doing what I love. The concept for Mayvn Interiors was born from wanting to offer more to the design trade in Australia. When designing pieces my interior decorating hat comes on and I create for the design trade and what I believe is missing in the current market.

What inspires you?

In one word, travel! Travelling through South Africa was the jumping off point for our launch range Artisan15. While we were there I came across some incredible fabrics which are hand designed and printed by Lula Fabrics in Cape Town. The concept of using fabrics as our point of difference is something we are passionate about for all collections moving forward. We are off to Vietnam next to source inspiration for our next range.

Tell us about a ‘typical’ day

Being a start up, there is no typical day. It’s so challenging and empowering as we seriously are doing it all from picking and packing the stock to CEO responsibilities. We are learning hard and fast and loving every second of the ride.

What are you working on right now?

We are working on expanding our range which is super exciting. Our next collection will include small scale furniture to compliment our current pieces – bedside tables, lamp tables, consoles and some new bedhead, armchair and lounge pieces. The pieces will be very much in line with our first collection offering classic silhouettes with a modern edge.

What exciting things can we expect to see at the upcoming show?

We love our bedheads. Their shape and proportion is quite unique to the ready made furniture market and their quality is exceptional. We offer classic colours that tie in with the majority of interior schemes and then a few designs for those who are a bit more daring. The Baxter bedhead in Paisley Ink is my favourite.

What’s your best piece of business advice?

‘Your smile is your logo, your personality is your business card, how you leave others feeing after an experience with you becomes your trademark.’ Jay Danzie

What trends do you predict for the coming year?

We tend to march to the beat of our own drum and design pieces for longevity, function, beauty and comfort. If I had to pick one trend for 2016 it would be the emergence of pastels. They are lovely and soft and incredibly calming in a bedroom scheme. Pantone have nailed the colours this year with Serenity and Rose Quartz and they can be a lot of fun to work with. Our French Blue is the perfect little nod to this palette.

What dreams do you have for Mayvn Interiors?

Big. Huge. Reaching for the stars! We are here for a good time and a long time and at this years Life In Style we hope to connect with businesses that fall in love with our product but most importantly understand our brand. We are not just offering our customers a chair or a bedhead, we are offering them a slice of design and an investment in luxury that they can enjoy for many years to come.
