It truly is awe inspiring to have such fantastic female entrepreneurs in our industry. International Women’s Day gives us the opportunity to celebrate the amazing business achievements of the fabulous ladies who help to make our events so special. Want to know what inspires them to do what they do? Let’s find out #manifeellikeawoman

LIS: Why do you think women are so important to business?

Emily: What a wonderful point to highlight for International Women’s Day.  One of the things I often notice at Life Instyle events & in the industry as a whole is the number of strong, ambitious women heading up amazing creative businesses.  It’s incredibly inspiring and motivating & a wonderful community to be a part of.  I believe that one of the most important roles of women in positions of leadership & management is to serve as strong role models for women starting out in business & to younger girls. When young women & girls see women from their own communities as entrepreneurs, business women and leaders within the community; it opens their minds to the possibilities for their own accomplishments to become more than a pipe dream.

LIS: What do you believe you bring to the retail industry?

Emily: My own background & upbringing has influenced my love of a more natural aesthetic.  With this; I’m committed to bringing handmade & ethically sourced product to retailers around Australia.  The feedback I receive and relationships built with our customers is what drives me to continue to expand and develop into new areas.  I’ve got some big plans for 2017 (as well as one very special new arrival of my first baby in the coming months!) so looking forward to sharing all of our exciting new ranges with everyone!

LIS: Why do you think women are so important to business?

Briody: I think women are powerful, strong, direct and smart in business. Men and women are equally important in business but sadly at the moment women aren’t represented equally. Some of the businesses I admire most are run by women, these woman are wonderful leaders and show our future generations that we can all achieve our dreams in business and in life.

LIS: What do you believe you bring to the retail industry?

Eloise: I started drawing cards to make people around me feel good through little scribbles. I like to think it’s a feeling that I bring to the retail industry. Someone once said to me, if you are making people smile, you must be doing something good. It’s so simple but it is powerful and worth sharing. It’s not a revolutionary product that has been brought to customers in a new and exciting way. It is all it needs to be, a card for one person to buy for another person, to let them know they are loved. They connect people in a tangible way. My Mum was recently going through some old photos and she stumbled across a love letter from my Dad. It made me think that if they were in their early 20’s now, that letter would probably be a text message, lost between thousands of others. Words of love deserve to be held, kept and remembered. That’s hopefully what I help to bring!

LIS: Why do you think women are so important to business?

Sonya: Women in business are important because at it is simplest level they add diversity and bring perspective;  and diversity and perspective in business, or leadership, breeds innovation.

LIS: What do you believe you bring to the retail industry?

Sonya: After a career of over 20-years in the corporate world prior to dog&boy, I’d like to think I can bring some pearls of wisdom! When I created dog&boy, I didn’t want to simply add noise to an already saturated market. I wanted to connect though design and provide an experience that retailers could give their customers. With my commercial experience I have been able to identify and understand issues from a retailers, and customers, perspective so I can adapt my business accordingly to the ever changing retail market.

At the end of the day, the easier it is for retailers to sell my product the better it is for me. dog&boy is about the simple beauty of everyday. So every touch point from the design and colourways of my limited edition designs, the branded gift packaging (what retailer wants to unpack things from a cello bag before they give to a customer??!!) and supporting material such as my ‘wear’ brochure, and postcards that tell the customer the story of each design. All these elements add to the customer experience to connecting with dog&boy and then seeking to purchase.
