Have a yarn with Otto & Spike

Otto and Spike is as much about a place as a product. Having been knitting in Melbourne for over 40 years, the team behind Otto & Spike believes that wearing warm woollies is part of life for the Melbourne dweller. Keeping the tradition of knitting alive, Head Honcho, Kirstie Mananov, shares the history of the textile brand and how they have gotten to where they are today.

What is your company story?

Back when we first started knitting, good ol’ Brunnie was the centre of Melbourne’s textile industry. Nowadays things have changed. Hardly anyone knits in Australia. Companies chasing cheaper prices moved their production overseas. Our family has been knitting in Brunswick for half a decade now and we’re not about to stop. Like a good family recipe, our knits are constantly being tweaked and perfected. The finest ingredients are selected from Australia and New Zealand as we constantly scour the lands for beautiful surplus wools. Our bounty includes everything from Merino, Angora and Cashmere to name a few. Every great recipe warrants the best tools and we have an amazing collection of knitting machinery; enough to document the last century of knitted history.
