First Instyler Thea Samios from Thea & Sami, is putting the final touches to her beautiful textile range, before she packs it all up and heads to Life Instyle in Melbourne next week. Her range includes a co-ordinating range of homewares featuring hand-printed natural linens and organic fabrics. Table runners and cushions feature strongly. They’ve also collaborated with Melbourne designer Lyssy May to create a limited-edition range of hand-made bags and purses.
Thea’s products are proudly Australian-made, showcasing original designs with timeless style. With a nod ‘green’ production, Thea always considers the environment and chooses natural, sustainable fibres and only prints with water-based, non-toxic inks. We love products that are beautiful and have a conscience – an all rounder winner!
You’ll get to meet Thea next week, but in the mean time here’s a little more about the Thea & Sami story…
How did you end up where you are today?
We were living in Canada when I went back to school and studied Textile Design. I knew upon my return to Australia that I wanted to design and screen-print fabrics and develop a product range. It has taken a lot of hard work, perseverance, cash plus trial and error to find our place in the market.
What’s the best thing about what you do?
I like the many hats that I wear. There is no typical work day so it’s never boring. My roles include designing, screen-printing, product development, photography, website maintenance and blogging. Luckily my husband is now taking care of the sales department and loves using the phone!
Why have you chosen to start exhibiting at Life Instyle?
Many of our buyers already visit the show so we knew that it would be the right venue for showcasing our range and for attracting new clients.
What can we expect to see at the show?
We have a beautiful range of hand-printed linen fabrics and wares that are inspired by Modern French Country Living.
Right now I’m:
Eating… Very healthy! All fresh and organic produce and no junk.
Drinking… Cafe lattes to get me through the long days and nights!
Reading… Lately, I have been enjoying design & craft blogs and following those from my talented friends. They’re quick and easy to read as I don’t have time to read books right now.
Hearing… Old school music such as The Eagles but also the wonderful voice of Michael Buble. I am looking forward to his concert in February.
Planning… Future design collaborations and new products to add to our next range
Buying… Furniture for our new house
Enjoying… Feathering our nest and growing the business
