This is one for you exhibitors! Lucia Philip visited Life Instyle Melbourne and was awe-struck by the sheer elegance of Life Instyle and has a few helpful marketing hints for our awesome exhibitors to make sure you get the most out of your experience. Don’t worry visitors, you can adapt these pointers to your daily business practices as well!

Congratulations!  Life Instyle is a wrap for 2017.

Hopefully, by now you’ve unpacked the last of the trade show equipment and stock (seriously, if you haven’t already, do it today) and hopefully, you’ve had a chance to put your feet up momentarily and are ready to get back to it.

You did it- worked your butt off for four days, met heaps of amazing buyers and hopefully welcomed some new members to your family of stockists.

So what now?

Life Instyle

Make sure that you capitalise on your Life Instyle successes by doing these three things.

  1. Get in Contact!

All those business cards you were handed and email addresses you collected are useless unless you use them.  So collate all the details.  If people gave you permission to add them to your email list, do that immediately.

Platforms such as MailChimp will automatically send a confirmation email to any addresses you add manually.  You want this request for confirmation to go out while people still remember that they agreed to sign up. So get on it!

And work out a plan for all those business cards.  At the very least, an email expressing your pleasure at meeting the person is in order.  And any warm leads should ideally be followed up with a phone call.

  1. Start Thinking About Feedback

Take an hour to jot down any feedback you received from buyers and visitors. As you should be now well into your lead-up-to Christmas phase, you’ll most likely be too busy to implement any of the more substantial feedback.  But this information will be invaluable in early January when you start thinking about your goals for 2018.  So take the time to write it down now, while it is still fresh, and implement the low hanging fruit.

  1. Think About Collaborating

Owning your own business is one of the most fulfilling career choices you can make, but it can also be one of the loneliest.  Next time you have half an hour for a leisurely coffee, grab a blank piece of paper and jot down the following:

  • Life Instyle vendors you met or connected with or really admired.
  • Big trends you noticed at Melbourne Life Instyle (think colour, products, materials).

Then, jot down:

  • How your business fits with these trends.
  • The 3 best things about your business (don’t just think about your product, also consider your skills, social media following, etc)

Can you join the dots between any of these?  Was there a vendor you really admired or that you chatted to that has really tapped into one of the trends you noticed?  How might you bring value to them?  What could the two of your create together that brings value to your customer?

Once you have an idea, be brave.  Take another 20 minutes to pen an email suggesting you collaborate.  Who knows what may come of it.  For less than an hour of work right now, you could have a really valuable offering for your customers in time for Christmas or an exciting announcement for 2018.  What have you got to lose?

And finally, take a moment to reflect on what you have achieved this year so far and at Life Instyle particularly.  Christmas is fast approaching.  Whether you are a maker or retailer, things are going to get busy, and it’s always bumpy.  So give yourself a moment to feel good about what you’ve achieved so far.

And then bring on the rest of 2017! You got this.
