What path bought you to Life Instyle?
To be with like minded and design focused vendors and buyers. Also, when I was first starting out many potential clients, family and friends kept telling me “you NEED to be at Kids In Style”, so here I am!
A typical day at work involves…
Planning out new products and inclusions to our current range, dotted with spurts of social media browsing for both inspiration and relaxation.
My style is best described as…
Classical with a touch of fun.
If I wasn’t doing this I’d probably…
Be saving lives (I still work as a critical care nurse).
I get my best business ideas by…
Watching trends, playing with my children and letting them tell me what’s important and special to them.
The biggest influence in my business life is…
It sounds like such a cliché, but it is my children. Everything I do, everyday, is for them, both figuratively and literally. Given that the focus of our business is centered around children and their fun and enjoyment, it makes sense.
Right now I’m working on…
Design templates for some new stock, just for Kids In Style!
Little Kite was created from a love of design, having fun and being able to piece together a gorgeous party. We represent stylish designs and quality stock.
I think we may soon see the end of the Chevron (it’s had a good run) and see new shapes emerge, more Geometrics.
What is your background?
My parents lived on opposite sides of the globe, so from an early age I was lucky enough to experience extensive international travel. A love of Architecture and Design was born! I was all set for a career in design, with a focus on interior design, but a twist of fate meant a change to Nursing. As a specialist critical care nurse I found that children’s parties could transform me away to another place and take me away from the grown up responsibilities of everyday life. Now life is focused more on the fun and keeping that childish imagination alive!
What or who inspires you?
The little people in my life, and I gain inspiration from many different designers and styles.
What are your favourite trends at the moment?
I love a crisp white pallet with purposeful use of colour. Of course, I just love Moroccan inspired elements, the gorgeous tiles, trellis, textiles, the food (hence our ‘Signature’ range).
What’s the best thing about what you do?
I get to play at parties and keep thinking up new combinations every day.
What exciting things can readers expect to see at the upcoming show?
Stop by and see the new designs I’ve been working on, which should be available at the Sydney show.
Best piece of advice you’ve been given…
Actually at the Training Wheels session, Kylie from Of Kin shared a philosophy that I believe in and that wholeheartedly resonates with me. It was something like: Be kind, share, like and follow.
