Salt Water Sorrento RS

Attention fabulous Life Instylers! Feeling those Thursday blues? We hear you! Which is exactly why we want you to kick off your day with the latest in retail. It’s time you met Pamela McLaren, from Saltwater Sorrento. Pam’s story will inspire you to chase your dreams and to achieve success.

1. Where did it all begin for you?

10 years ago, I needed a project and my love of interiors resulted in Saltwater. I have always taken inspiration from my travels and used the opportunity to bring back ideas that are not found anywhere else.

2. Trying new things can sometimes be a daunting process. How do you introduce new initiatives into the business?

I am not daunted by trying new things. It is essential to be brave in this industry.

3. We have all been there, when the to-do list just keeps getting longer and longer. What would your best practice be to avoid the overwhelming feeling that comes with the never ending task list?

I write a list, once its written it will be done. I have an amazing team who help that happen.

4. Competition. It’s everywhere and sometimes hard to avoid. How do you stay ahead of the pack and differentiate yourself?

Sorrento is a very competitive strip. We import product from Europe and Africa and are always on the look-out for small artisans. The beautiful hand made aspect of our items has always set Saltwater apart.

5. Speaking of competition…What about those copycats? Has another company ever copied your products or ideas and what did you learn from this experience?

There will always be copycats. I prefer to focus on my own path. I believe if you follow your heart and what you believe in you will always be original and different.

6. We all make them…let’s be honest…as a business rookie, what was your biggest mistake and how did you learn from it?

I always over buy and have trouble sticking to a budget. I am trying… but still not quite there!

7. It is the hot topic of the moment that we all love to talk about but never can figure it out for ourselves. Work/Life balance is a tough one that only some can achieve –what’s your secret for keeping a balanced life in check whilst running a business?

My family always comes first. I do Yoga 3-4 times a week which helps me to remain centred.

8. What advice would you give to yourself a year ago?

9. Who do you look to for all your business needs?

My husband, and my talented Saltwater team.
