Today on the blog we celebrate and shine a light on 6 Life Instyle brands that have defined social responsibility and are giving back to the community.
Did you know that Aussies send 85% of fashion to landfill. On average a single Australian will purchase 27kgs of textile fashion in a year and discard approximately 23kgs with 90% of this weight being man-made fibres that may never break down*.
It was this fact alone that blew our minds and I am sure it has yours as well.
If you have met the loveable and incredibly talented Katie, founder & CEO of EcoBling you will know this eco-friendly and sustainable jewellery brand, EcoBling is going places.
EcoBling & Katie give back to a number of charities and organisations but our favourite would have to be her work with local aboriginal cultures to create the Indigibling range.
Katie holds a special place in her heart for the Aboriginal community and to keep their stories alive she connected with Indigenous people in rural and remote Australia to share abd celebrate their culture and stories with the broader public. This was done through the burning of art, which is a traditional practice, onto the pre-made wooden jewellery.
After Katie micro-financed the individuals and communities the burners they needed to get started, the community created pieces of jewellery in exchange for the value of the burners. After these burners were paid back, they community then owned the equipment and became suppliers of the jewellery and in turn generated an ongoing income.
Indigibling is not the only way Katie & EcoBling give back to the community. EcoBling also plants a tree for every piece sold through Trees for the future, supports disaster-stricken areas in 3rd world countries and supports the efforts of One World Collective.
