Pop the champagne and don your finest threads – party season is still in full swing. We are super excited about the looks that will sway our styling choices during this festive time. Whether you are hosting a summer barbeque at home or decorating a summer window for your store, we have compiled a hit list of key materials and palettes to inspire you for when the sunshine lingers and the vibe is buzzing. Cheers!
Palm leaves and greenery
Greenery, Pantone’s colour of the year for 2017, lives on into 2018 in a very tropical way, with palm leaves as the motif that just won’t quit. Large leaves add instant lushness to a space and they are great value as they last for weeks in water.
With a feeling that’s slightly seventies boho and partly beachside resort, this natural material is the perfect complement to a summer’s day. It brings an outdoor feeling inside and adds an instant neat casualness. Get an instant in-season update by adding a statement rattan armchair, pendant light or mirror.
While we are on the topic of materials: add some earthiness to harsh black and white schemes by layering up natural textures in the space, bringing in sisal, rustic timber, linen and leather. Natural materials connect us to the earth and ground us, which is exactly the kind ‘slow down’ reminder we need when our social calendars overwhelm us.
Choose pink and yellow, with a splash of red
How can you not smile when faced with this super delightful colour palette? It’s a fresh slice of happiness that can inspire your table styling, your cocktails or your outfits. If you prefer to work with a more serious set of colours, choose mustard yellows, rusty reds and dusty pink for the ‘grown up’ version.
Gingham, spots, florals and globally inspired prints come together for a bright, bold and directional look. Stick to a limited colour palette across your selection and it will sit together no matter how clashy the patterns. Take it to the next level with added texture through fringing, pom poms and embellishments. Velvet finishes will continue into summer and serve us well us through next Autumn and Winter.
The Aussie summer is the perfect time to embrace everything that is beautiful about our landscape. Decorating with Australian natives will instantly bring a little piece of Oz into your space. As cut flowers, they are long lasting and are available in a wide range of bright colours and sculptural forms. Disclaimer- the below arrangement includes proteas, which actually aren’t native to Australia, despite popular belief. These South African flowers are still beautiful and sit nicely amongst the true Aussie blooms.
