There’s no doubt as a buyer that by mid July we are all experiencing ‘itchy feet’ so to speak. The winter blues have set in and we are in search of the next ‘big thing’. We want to refresh, reset and Life Instyle brings us the opportunity like a big gift ready to be unwrapped – you try to guess what might be inside, will it be a surprise, the best gift ever, expected, unexpected…Under one big, beautiful roof (a beautiful roof by the way – The Royal Exhibition Building) we get to unwrap treasures and unearth the talents of Australian makers and designers. So here’s a snapshot of what treasures, trends, colours and game changers we saw at Life Instyle and will retail in Spring/Summer 2016.

A blur of pale finishes pastels, whites, pinks and greys combined with a cookie cutter approach to styling and decorating has dominated in recent times and Spring/Summer sees the beginning of giving this a shakeup. Inspired by our fascination with Palm Springs a new colour palette emerges influenced by the desert landscape, sky blues, cacti greens, earthy, muddy tones combined with sunset peaches, pinks and gold’s. Lightly’s ‘Cinnamon’ Collection inspired by designer Cindy-Lees time in India best represented this colour trend.

Space to Create in its ‘Space to Inspire’ edit, shows how using a colour pop gives personality to a space adding excitement and stimulation to your interiors.

Wall art sees a movement away from TYPOGRAPHIC to PHOTOGRAPHIC art prints. Iconic photographs from around the globe, and iconic imagery of beautiful horizons and landscapes.
As we seek to escape our busy lives and excessive screen time textural elements and mixed materials are providing a cosiness and cocoon to nurture and relax. Think chunky throws, Berber wools, velvets, linens and sheepskins. In the words of Zakkia ‘Letting the beauty of the natural materials shine’. This is evident in the gorgeous terrazzo accents seen in Zakkia’s new collection.

Our current fascination with all things GREEN is not going anywhere. Botanical inspiration and planters of all shapes and sizes will continue to be important decorating items. This trend was well represented by Melbourne brand Ivy Muse.

In textiles Bonnie and Neil’s ‘Sunrise’ collection is inspired by the warmth of the Australian sun think beautiful gold’s and yellows and bountiful plant life as we see leafy ferns and monstera leaves in abundance.

A special mention to the gorgeous sisters behind Marble Basics for their collection ‘Unearthed’. There is no doubt marble is a timeless classic, our recent obsession with this material new no bounds. This collection shows marble as a primary material and how to evolve a trend. The new range brings to life simple, functional pieces being added to the collection the trio of vases in Fog and Midnight were a favourite as well as the introduction of green and black stone.
